Description
Introduction · · · · · ·
Like all children, Martina is full of curiosity, energy and courage. From household chores to outdoor play, from daily etiquette to outdoor adventures, from ordinary life to character development, from outdoor activities to skill development... Martina's storybooks contain everything a Chinese child is experiencing. And Martina can also help children realize the life that many children are eager to experience through stories. From the first volume "Martina on the Farm" published in 1954 to "Martina and the Mysterious Prince" published in 2010, there are also stories such as "Martina Goes on a Trip", "Martina Performs a Play", "Martina Learns to Cook", "Martina and the Pony"... These stories allow Martina and young readers to understand many fields and professions, and become familiar with a variety of environments.
Martina is the world is the reality of dreams...
Martina's world is a little girl's dream reality: nature and human beings coexist harmoniously, the atmosphere is friendly and pure. This is a child's paradise.
If Martina lived in an imaginary world, she wouldn't have those special experiences. Her wishes and questions are very human. This little girl is just like any other girl (or boy) in real life.
In the catalogue created by the Urbanelle Museum for the "Martina Story Series", Harry Morgan said something very appropriate: "Martina lives in the world of young readers' imaginations, and together they slowly get to know the world through story after story."
"To live like the little protagonist in the book, to dance like her... is the biggest dream for many little girls..." said Madina Sadion, head of the conservation department of the Erbiner Museum of Imagery.
2. Martina’s world is a dream that can come true…
Martina gains knowledge and wisdom from life through experience after experience.
Her enthusiasm sometimes gets her into tricky situations, but she always learns from them, such as taking a train alone or organizing an event, because she is always "prepared."
Daniel Fano explained: "Martina's story is not about the stereotypes of women, but about how it is normal to encounter and even overcome all kinds of situations..."
"Martina, a lifelong friend." This is a declaration by the creator. The publisher did not agree with this statement at first, but countless readers said that Martina accompanied them through many difficulties. After hearing these stories, the publisher gradually realized how much precious wealth was hidden under Martina's light appearance.
About the Author
In faraway Belgium, there are two such grandfathers.
One grandfather is a poet named Gilbert Delahaye (1923-1997), and he is also an excellent children's book editor at Casterman Publishing House. Sixty years ago, Casterman was going to publish a set of books for little girls, so this grandfather and another painter grandfather created a lovely little girl image Martina, telling a series of stories about Martina: Martina on the farm, traveling, taking a train, camping in the wild, traveling in a hot air balloon, learning to sail, doing gardening, and seeing interesting elves... Each of her stories is interesting and is loved by children.
Daniel Fano, a journalist and author, said: "Gibel de Leya should be very happy because he was able to use his talent to achieve the goals set by the publishing house, and he did much better than the goals: he made the Martina series of children's books reach a truly poetic level."
Guibel de Leya died in 1997. He loved children so much that he chose to pass away on St. Nicholas Day (local Children's Day) to express his tacit smile to the children in this way.
Jean-Louis Marier, son of the painter Marcel Marier, who has since taken over Guibert de Léa's work, is a man of extraordinary talent who knows Martine's entire world well and who continues the story without interruption, with all his fidelity to the characters in the book.
Another grandfather is a painter. His name is Marcel Marlier (1930-2011). He is a talented painter who showed excellent painting talent before he was 10 years old. He started to draw illustrations for magazines in his youth. He is a super storyteller with a brush. He has collaborated with many famous novelists and has drawn many very famous children's books. Of course, the most famous of these books is Martina.
This master of illustration has been constantly enriching his experience, from trying watercolor to computer painting, while adhering to a basic principle: observation takes precedence over creation, and only by drawing the essence can one look at things, animals and humans from a rich perspective, always showing three-dimensional scenes in the paintings he creates.
The preparation of each book takes months, and for Marcel Marlier this is a pure pleasure, he likes to find all possible solutions, so that the character of the protagonist does not have any affectation. He pays special attention to the reconstruction.
His great success did not diminish his self-awareness: "In any case, illustrations cannot be regarded as pictorial art. The content of illustrations depends mainly on the plot. It is telling a story. An illustrator who considers himself a painter has a frivolous mentality."
He said: "Time for research is also time to enjoy the joy of painting and dreaming. Everything is possible here..."
