【Content Introduction】
"The Boy" is a novel by French writer Marcus Malte, which won the 2016 Femina Prize.
The boy has no name and grew up in the forest in southern France. After his mother died, the boy embarked on a journey driven by his nature. He met many people: Joseph, who was disheartened after losing his lover, Brabette, a wandering artist, a half-armed knight with great literary talent, and Emma, the boy's lover who was like a sister and a mother. During the journey, the boy began to vaguely understand what life is made of: some joy, some twists and turns; some reunions, many separations.
As the First World War breaks out, the boy experiences the utter madness of humanity, the Holocaust, and what we call civilization. This is a journey for a young soul; in his ignorance, the boy experiences events that shape history and begins to awaken...

【Hot reviews from the media】
A great epic, this novel brilliantly tells the story of a wild child discovering civilization. It is a wonderful story about learning and growing up, and also a parable about the cruelty of war.
—Mona Ozouf, Chairperson of the Femina Prize Jury
Marcus Malte is a man of extraordinary courage and ambition. The narrative language of the novel changes according to the situation: sometimes poetic, sometimes circuitous; sometimes sharp, sometimes violent. The novel tells us about the chaos of the world and the complexity of human nature.
