The creation of "A Muslim Funeral" was completed in the autumn of 1987 and published in the 16th and 17th issues of the quarterly "Novel", reprinted in the sixth issue of "Chinese Writers" in 1987, and published as a single volume by Beijing October Literature and Art Publishing House in 1988, which aroused strong social repercussions. Many writers, critics, Muslim scholars and readers fully affirmed and highly praised it, believing that it was the first novel in my country that successfully portrayed the long history and real life of the Hui people, and that it had the qualities of a national epic and an irreplaceable literary status and aesthetic value in the history of contemporary literature.
In 1991, "A Muslim Funeral" won the highest award in Chinese literature - the third Mao Dun Literature Prize. In addition, it has also won the third national minority literature creation award - the Junma Award, the Beijing Outstanding Literature Award for the 40th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China and many other awards.
In 1989, the full text of the book was broadcasted in the "Novel Series" column of China National Radio, and China Radio International and many local radio stations also rebroadcasted it many times, deeply moving countless viewers. Since 1991, China Literature Publishing House and Foreign Languages Press have successively published translations of the book in English, French, Arabic, Urdu and other languages. In 1992, the "World Forum" in Taiwan, China serialized the book for a year. In 1993, the International Village Library Bookstore in Taiwan, China published the traditional Chinese version of the upper and lower volumes of "A Muslim Funeral". In 2005, "A Muslim Funeral" was included in the "Complete Works of Mao Dun Literature Award Winners" of the People's Literature Publishing House. In 2008, China National Radio re-recorded "A Muslim Funeral" as a 100-episode music recitation production, which was broadcast in the "Voice of Literature and Art" column and was later rebroadcast by many radio stations. In 2009, "A Muslim Funeral" was included in the "New China 60 Years Novel Collection" of the People's Literature Publishing House and the "Republic Writers Library" of the Writers Publishing House.
