About the Author
Anton Pavlovich Chekhov (1860-1904) is an outstanding representative of Russian realistic literature in the 19th century. He is known as one of the "three great short story writers in the world" along with French writer Maupassant and American writer O. Henry. Chekhov took a different approach based on the Russian realistic tradition and opened up a new world with short stories. With his keen observation and concise writing style, he revolutionized the literary genre of short stories. Many world-famous writers in later generations called themselves "Chekhov's followers" and were proud of it.
