Born in Nairobi, Kenya in 1950, he spent his childhood in the vast African land and made many animal friends. This experience had an important influence on his later creations. He majored in foreign literature in London and began to collect and organize African folk tales. His works often feature animals on the savannah. The stories are concise, lively, humorous and philosophical. He is enthusiastic about public welfare and uses his works to call on people to pay attention to and protect wild animals. His representative works include "The Clever Chameleon", "The Greedy Zebra", "The Witty Turtle" and "The Lazy Lion".

Born in New Zealand in 1945, she spent her childhood in Kenya. She is good at using watercolor to depict the primitive scenery and rich species of Africa, vividly showing the colorful pictures of the African land. She and Mowenyi Hitis co-authored children's books such as "Greedy Zebra", "Chumpy Elephant" and "Smart Turtle", and won the 1987 Kate Greenaway Award for "Smart Chameleon".
