👉 Project Introduction
The Lesbian Story Collection is a documentary project of the Northeast sexual minority women's community initiated by the Shenyang Les Mutual Aid Association. It includes a story collection manual in text form and documentary short films in video form.
The handbook interviews 10 queer women living in Shenyang, records their life stories, and shows the living conditions of sexual minority women in second- and third-tier cities represented by Shenyang, as well as their optimistic attitude towards life with the regional culture of Northeast China. The project explores issues such as gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, family relationships, views on marriage and love, and social acceptance of sexual minority women, in order to present a diverse and rich group of sexual minority women in Northeast China.
The short film was shot in the spring of 2022. At that time, Shenyang implemented home quarantine for the entire population due to COVID-19 prevention and control measures, and most of the film was shot indoors. After half a year of preparation, we chose to interview 6 queer women of different generations living in Shenyang. We hope to record the living conditions of "lesbians" in Northeast China at that time through images.
